Bahrain Government Graph
Method and Status Definitions
Structure from the Constitution of the Kingdom of Bahrain (2002, amended 2012 and 2017; English text at constituteproject.org), cited by article on each node. Officeholders checked on October 6, 2026, each with dated sources.
This graph models the Kingdom of Bahrain as institutions, positions and typed relationships (appoints, elects, commands, chairs, oversees, sponsors, parallel to). The centre of the wheel is the King: under Articles 1 and 33 the monarchy is hereditary, and the King appoints the Prime Minister, every minister, all 40 members of the Shura Council, the judges and the Constitutional Court, chairs the Supreme Judicial Council and commands the Defence Force. The elected Council of Representatives shares lawmaking with the appointed Shura Council, whose assent every law requires.
Sources. Every officeholder is sourced to official Bahraini government pages (the national portal's cabinet list, the Crown Prince's Court, ministry and parliament sites), the Bahrain News Agency, or outlets of record (Daily Tribune, Gulf Daily News, Gulf News, Reuters and others). Each source records its publisher, date and a short verbatim quote naming the person in the post; the quote was checked against the page itself. Verified means sources from two families (official, state media, independent outlet) agree. Single source means one family only. Unconfirmed posts and bodies we could not source to that standard are not shown.
Timing. Since February 28, 2026 Bahrain, which hosts US Naval Forces Central Command and the Fifth Fleet, has been struck repeatedly by Iran. Royal Order 13 of 2026 extended the sixth legislative term by one year, so the parliamentary elections due in November 2026 are now expected in late 2027. Recent turnover: a Minister of the Prime Minister's Court was added in June 2025; the Labour portfolio passed to the Minister of Legal Affairs in December 2025; the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs was reconstituted and a single Council of Islamic Endowments Affairs created in 2026.
Parallel power. The ruling Al Khalifa family holds the premiership, the Interior, Finance and Royal Court portfolios and the main military commands, and governs itself through the Royal Family Council. The King's son Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad is National Security Advisor, Royal Guard commander, secretary general of the Supreme Defence Council and chairman of the state energy company. The main Shia opposition society, Al Wefaq, was dissolved by court order in 2016. These links appear as edges rather than footnotes.
Not yet included: parliamentary committee chairs, undersecretaries, municipal councils and historical holders.
