Iran Government Graph

MEFMEF/Government Graph/Iran

Method and Status Definitions

Structure from the 1979 Constitution as amended in 1989, cited by article on each node. Officeholders researched live, each with sources.

This graph models the Islamic Republic of Iran as institutions, positions and typed relationships (appoints, confirms, elects, commands, vets, sponsors, parallel to). Parallel power structures (IRGC and its arms, Basij, Quds Force, the Leader-controlled bonyads and Setad) are a separate sector because they sit outside cabinet and Majlis oversight.

The wheel is centred on the Supreme Leader, not on the electorate. Under Articles 57 and 110 of the constitution the three branches operate under the absolute guardianship of the jurist (velāyat-e motlaqeh-ye faqih), and every elected office is filled from candidate lists vetted by bodies the Leader controls. Elections appear as a node in the connections list, not as the source of authority.

Persian names are followed by a transliteration in the Association for Iranian Studies scheme (ā for long a, ʿ for eyn, ʾ for hamzeh, ezāfeh as -e or -ye). Most Iranian government sites block traffic from outside Iran, so a link may not load abroad.

Verified means two independent source families agree (official decree such as rahbar.ir, a named press outlet, or the CIA World Leaders list). Single source means one family only. Acting, vacant and unconfirmed are shown as such rather than filled with a guess. The CIA World Leaders list for Iran was last updated October 10, 2024 and is treated as a historical cross-check, not a current source.

Since February 28, 2026 Iran has been at war with the United States and Israel; the Leader, the chief of the General Staff, the IRGC commander, the defense and intelligence ministers, the SNSC secretary and the IRGC intelligence chief have all been killed and replaced or left vacant. Holders are dated.

Key indicators come from the World Bank World Development Indicators API; each figure shows its own observation year because several series lag by years for countries at war. The relations-with-the-United-States block is curated by MEF from official US sources (State, Treasury, Congress, embassies) and named press, dated, and labeled with the same verification statuses as officeholders.
